Events Intern

Hiring Awesome

Our Team is Incomplete.

There is a hole in our game.

We need the absolutely perfectly Awesome intern to work full-time Summer 2025 to fill the role of Events Intern to complete us.

What We Do:

The most talented business leaders and managers in Greater Dallas have tasked the BOMA Greater Dallas staff to run the day-to-day operations of their not-for-profit association for them. We need the best intern ever!

What You Would Do:

Do you have a great personality and enjoy people? Do you have a servant’s heart such that you are energized by helping others in their careers? Are you looking for a fast-paced, rewarding, thrill-ride of an internship that you will remember lovingly for years as the “best internship you ever had”? Do you want to be part of business and economic growth in the region? Then, interning at the only association dedicated to commercial real estate in the entire region may be just the right fit for you.

There is one more thing, and it’s a BIG thing: We need mad skills. You need to be a detailed-oriented, calm-under-pressure, super-planner kind of TEAM PLAYER.

We do events! Some of the coolest events in the region, of course. We would need your help preparing for the events. This is mostly done at the office during regular business hours. Several times a month, however, we would need you to actually be at the event; so, would require transportation to get there in the Greater Dallas area. Some of our neatest and biggest events are in the evening; so, you would need to adjust your work schedule that day. A few days of the year, these events even fall on the weekend. But, we also always sleep in our own beds (no overnight travel).

Chiefly, you will be thinking about, planning, organizing, preparing for, and running EVENTS. Our events run in size from 6 to 1600 attendees with about 60 in the average year. Most weeks have at least one with some weeks having 5 or more. It’s a lot.

Did I mention Mechanical Bulls? Dart Tournaments? Or world-renowned Speakers?… yeah, you will organize that, too. Our events are broad and deep. We may have an education seminar for a handful of folks today followed by a luncheon with a top-notch presenter to a room of 200 tomorrow with a maxed-out Golf Tournament next week. You’ll have a half-dozen or more events on your desk at a time – all in different phases of preparation and planning. Heck, you might even write the script, run the slide show, or welcome the guests as they show up to registration. It is a roller-coaster ride with never a dull moment. Don’t expect to sit at your desk all the time. You are on the go – packing carts, loading cars, doing familiarization tours for new potential venues, setting up for the next great thing, and then watching our Members love all of the splendor you helped create.

It will keep you busy. When you are not at an event, you will be cooped up in your office, emerging for the occasional conversation, cup of coffee or Celcius, or to retrieve a batch of printed materials from the copier; but, you kinda like that… it’s one of the side perks of your internship. You like to dig deep… to focus… to hone-in on the task at hand; because, after all, you are a visionary… a creator… an originator… a perfectionist. But, it is more than that…

It’s being part of something bigger than yourself. It’s making a difference where you live, work, and play. So, you need to ask yourself… Can you do all of that? Can you represent? Can you dress, act, and sound the part, even when it’s a bad day and there are a bunch of things to finish on your To-Do List? Our members claim they BLEED BOMA BLUE because we help companies and their employees to learn, grow, and connect; so, the job is pretty rewarding and laid back – but, every job has its moments.

And… Are you willing to work both smart and hard to make it happen?

A requirement to apply is that you are currently enrolled in a college degree program; preferably with an internship requirement to graduate. You should know your way around a keyboard and a computer. We are not looking for an IT person; but, you do need to be an expert at MS Word and MS Outlook, pretty good with MS Excel, and should at least know what MS Teams is. Plus, we are a PC office. If you are Mac only, that doesn’t work. We will train all the rest.

Oh, we will train! Remember from above about this being the best internship you’ll ever have? – one highlight is our “Weekly Downloads” on real-life business topics with the CEO, HR, Communications Director, or Bookkeeper to take your understanding to the next level. These are one-on-one sessions that deep dive on the topic of the day, complete with all the answers to all the questions you have. Best internship ever!

How Much It Pays:

This is a full-time hourly position at $18.50/hour in our office in downtown Dallas. The work is inside work mostly at a desk or an event. There is no work-from-home. Most weeks you will work 40 hours. Some weeks will include overtime work, though that is rare.

You do need your own reliable transportation and your own mobile phone with a great plan. We will provide an additional allowance for the phone and reimbursement for miles.

Are You Still There?:

Most candidates don’t even make it this far in the job ad. They simply apply for every internship on the job board – not because the internship interests them, but because they need a job. ANY job. That person is probably not the right fit for us.

We want the applicant that goes running to their roommate… or best friend… or mom…. or cat, saying: you have to hear this ad! Is this me or what?!!

So, do two additional things in your cover letter for us. Would you, please? First, tell us the name of the plaza in Dallas where the 35th President was assassinated (just to let us know you read this far). And, also, how did you hear about this job opportunity? Of course, feel free to be creative (movie quotes and song references ALWAYS appreciated).

Benefits:

Traditional benefits are not included with this internship; but, we do have paid parking, lots of free coffee, and piles of free snacks and eats, as available.
